Based in Neuvy-Saint-Sépulchre, Jean-Claude Benéteau’s ready-to-wear and fashion items packaging and finishing company has grown from 500 m² to 10,000 m².
Located in the Le Fay business park in Neuvy, Berry Services celebrated its 20th anniversary at the end of December. This was an opportunity for the company’s director, Jean-Claude Benéteau, to review the development of his company, which has grown steadily over the years since its creation in 1998. Berry Services now specialises in bringing goods into compliance and the logistics, finishing and packaging of ready-to-wear and fashion items. It employs forty-five people on fixed-term contracts. "I started in a building of 500 m² that I expanded through the workshops and storage areas," says Jean-Claude Benéteau. “The space available in the industrial area has enabled this expansion. We currently work on a surface area of 10,000 m². I have to use seasonal (and temporary) workers on a regular basis to supplement the workforce.”
Gradually, Berry Services has increased its customer base which includes brands as varied as Bonobo, Carrefour, Aigle and Kenzo, by diversifying its activities. In 2007, the company also received the Logistics Innovation award. It processes 10 million items per year.
Adapting to customer requests
Originally from Luçon in the La Vendée département, Jean-Claude Benéteau, 54, graduated as an engineer in Besançon before joining to the Châteauroux-based company Mead Emballage (which closed in 2010), as production manager. A few years later, he founded Berry Services and quickly made a name for himself in the logistics industry. He has acquired a loyal customer base throughout France in the field of ready-to-wear and branded clothing and footwear packaging. “Our strength is our ability to adapt to customers’ needs and requests—our slogan is ‘much more than just logistics’”.
Washing and embroidery
Today, the company offers a wide range of services including labelling, packaging, quality control, ironing, smoothing, customisation and sewing of brand labels. "Three years ago, we set up the washing station and, most recently, the embroidery station to create brand logos in-house—this is the latest machine acquired by the company along with fabric inspection. In the future, we will expand these two stations.” Berry Services also has a garment workshop equipped with all the machines required for sewing activities.
