Formerly a production manager in the industrial field, Jean-Claude Benéteau changed course in 1998 when he set up the company Berry Services in the municipality of Neuvy-Saint-Sépulchre. The young manager started off providing manual services in the packaging and assembly sector. The company’s activity began with orders for film wrapping, putting small items into packets and packing a range of different products into boxes, in addition to screwing, welding and gluing jobs. “In 2000, we assembled 1.5 million euro converters.” Having become a multi-service company, the SME has adapted to each new request with in a highly responsive manner. “We have responded to requests in areas I hadn't even thought of," explains Mr. Benéteau, who has optimised his organisational skills. In addition to packaging and assembly, the company offers envelope and newspaper insertion and stock management services. “We manage the stock of the French Bridge club supplier. We get orders in from all over France.” Nowadays, most of the turnover is generated by services provided to the ready-to-wear sector. Berry Services acts as an intermediary between importers—mainly based in Paris and the surrounding area—and the end customer, performing a wide range of tasks: quality control, insertion and removal of brand labels, attaching tags, placing garments on hangers, ironing, smoothing, alterations, storage, and delivery to customers. Jean-Claude Benéteau, who employs twelve people, and thirty during busy periods, has surrounded himself with a predominantly female team with experience in the clothing industry. The company, which has already increased the size of its workshop threefold, is set to expand again.
