Every year, six million garments pass through the company Berry Services, which is soon to double its surface area.
The nimble hands at Berry Services have a worldwide reputation. Every year, six million garments made in Asia, North Africa or France stop over in Neuvy-Saint-Sépulchre before being shipped to Moscow, Sydney or Los Angeles. The company, created in 1998 by Jean-Claude Benéteau, is the perfect example of a service provider. Specialising in logistics, it uncreases, inspects, labels, and sometimes repairs, garments to go to both big brand stores and small local boutiques.
“We are able to provide a “turnkey solution” from receiving to delivering goods, as we can also carry out order picking and manage transport”, explains the company’s director. “When recipients receive the goods, all they have to do is put them on the shelves”.
We manage some of our customers’ websites.
The company, which now has forty-five employees, often takes items - according to needs - from permanent stocks. It also manages some of its customers’ websites, by collecting and completing orders. While its employees are capable of repairing a snag by hand and visually inspecting a garment, since last year, the company is the owner of a steam tunnel with capacity to process 1,500 garments an hour. For example, dresses that come in folded up in boxes will leave reconditioned on hangers.
Having encountered difficulties during the crisis, Berry Services got back on track in 2010 with a growing turnover that is set to continue to increase this year. To tap into new markets, Jean-Claude Benéteau plans to double the surface area of the workshop, which currently covers 5,000 m2. This new three-level building will be dedicated to order picking and storage. Recruitment of new staff should follow. “We are continuing to develop in the same niche,” says Jean-Claude Benéteau. “We may pass by other customers, but keep our image of a quality-focussed and dynamic company, as we are recognised in our field".
